AN OPEN LETTER TO THE YOUNG LIBERALS OF THE WORLD

Greetings to my fellow liberals in the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY)!

With enthusiasm, I would like to endorse the election of MR. JAN-ARGY TOLENTINO, to the position of Vice President of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY).

Known for his diligence, hard work and perseverance, the vast organizational work experiences he had in Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas (KALIPI) and in the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia (YLDA) could speak very well of his credentials.

His leadership was most significant in his more than 14 years of service to the cause of Liberalism. As a young liberal, his leadership was tested when he was elected unopposed by his peers as Secretary-General of Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas (KALIPI) for two successive terms from 2001-2007 after his term as Vice President for Students in (1998-2001). During his term, KALIPI saw the formation of sectors like the KALIPI-COLA (Council of Ladies), the National Students League, the Student Leaders Forum, and the Center for Liberal Leadership.

The young liberal networks in Asia have been very fortunate that Jan Argy has served as Chairman of Membership Committee (2004 – 2006) prior to his election as Secretary-General of YLDA. His leadership contributed to the growing membership of the organization in Asia, his creativity was an asset behind all successful activities and his views were noteworthy in the positions the organization have taken. Not many know this, but at a time that YLDA was in a crisis, almost at the break of dissolution, it was Jan Argy who took the burden of manning the secretariat and moving the organization forward to the right direction. To us in Asia, this shows leadership that when the going gets tough, the tough gets going and that’s Jan Argy.

Jan-Argy, with his zeal in building a world network of liberals will definitely be a gain to the International Federation of Liberal Youth and his election to the position of Vice President will likewise assure the support of the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia to the future endeavors of IFLRY.

Nomination from KALIPI President

4 December 2007

Jacob Rasmussen
President, International Federation of Liberal Youth

Dear Pres. Rasmussen,

In view of the incoming bureau election of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY), I am privileged to nominate Jan-Argy Y. Tolentino for the position of Vice President.

Jan-Argy is our out-going Secretary General. He has been an active member of Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas (KALIPI) for the last 14 years and has been instrumental in the development of many of its programs as well as our rapid expansion. Although we consider it our great loss, we are honored to share him to the worldwide liberal youth movement.

Jan-Argy is active in the propagation of liberal values in the Asian region. He was part of the group that founded the Young Liberals & Democrats of Asia (KALIPI), and has contributed much to its strengthening and in the success of its programs and policies serving in the past as its Membership Committee Chairperson and Secretary General.

Jan-Argy is well-versed in the issues that confront the youth both nationally, regionally and globally. We believe that his competence in handling administrative, policy and advocacy programs will add to the Federations’ effectiveness in dealing with its concerns. An Asian sitting on the Board of IFLRY would also serve both as recognition of the vibrancy of the liberal movement in the continent and as a means to effectively address the issues and challenges facing the youth of the region.

We in KALIPI believe that Jan-Argy will be a very valuable asset to IFLRY in the strengthening of its presence in Asia, and that few could best represent the region in the gathering of the world’s young liberals.

Again, we reiterate our nomination for IFLRY Vice President to Jan-Argy Y. Tolentino.

Yours in the service of liberalism,
